Functionally, by shifting from lay-in modular and recessed lighting to a 3-circuit track system, we can provide greater flexibility of positioning of luminaires, as well as rapid adjustment and additions, ideal for a dynamic retail client.

The lighting scheme was carefully developed to complement every department and ensure a cohesive look across the store.

• Mains track lighting system provides ultimate flexibility of design, which for retail is key as seasonal requirements and trends are forever changing, so the lighting can be malleable to adapt.

• Traqer Blade provides uplifting ambient lighting in a dynamic linear form, complimenting the aisles and providing a soft glow on the ceiling above.

• Traqer Twins created a ‘marketplace’ feel to the fresh fruit & veg area, bringing the fresh produce to life with CRI>90 colour rendering and a punchy beam for maximum effect.

• Traqer Monoblade are carefully positioned to highlight signage and graphics with the hinged mechanism on the track adaptor, aiding in store wayfinding and character.

• Emteq Traq use their own dedicated circuit for emergency feeds, utilizing the track DALI pair for ease of installation and providing monitoring for maintenance & compliance.

During the design phase, Edge Lighting supplied samples of new concepts for review and approval by the Waitrose design team. This collaborative process helped define the lighting direction for future stores, setting a new standard for retail presentation and control.

Following completion of the installation, the impact of the new lighting was quickly noticed by both customers and Partners. The refreshed layout, paired with the flexibility of the Traqer system, has transformed the store’s overall feel, particularly noticed within fresh produce.
